Sunday: Frugal choice #3

November 14th, 2004 at 12:08 pm

Am making my son's lunch from a pack of frozen pureed squash rather than the gerber's portion. Gerber's is about 50 cents per serving; dividing up a package of frozen squash is 10 cents for the same size serving.

Have you made more baby food? I found with my first is was cheaper, but not easier. With my second I switched to 100 hommade and useda hand blender to make life quicker.

Sorry I missed your earlier question. I've actually found it very, very easy. I just puree most items, such as veggies. Now at 10 months, our son can also eat much of what we eat, such as whole wheat pasta and marinara sauce, or banana bread, or pureed green beans. It is a LOT cheaper than the Gerbers. To puree, I just put things in our blender with some water.
